It has been quite the year so far for Kansas City Chiefs right guard Laurent Duvernay-Tardif of Saint-Jean-Baptiste, Quebec. In February, he won a Super Bowl with the Chiefs. After a short vacation to the Caribbean, he has been working in a long term care facility near Montreal, Quebec.

See Laurent Duvernay-Tardif is actually Dr. Laurent Duvernay-Tardif even though the National Football League does not allow him to put M.D. on the back of his Chiefs jersey. At this time Duvernay-Tardif is in more of a nursing role according to Sports Illustrated where you can find his personal story this week.

There is no doubt Quebec has been a hot spot of coronavirus in Canada. There are currently 25, 757 cases of coronavirus in Quebec with nursing homes and long term care facilities being considered the most notable places where French Canadians are dying from the disease. There are currently 1682 deaths in the province.

The NFL regular season does not start until September. Who knows what the sports world will look like even just over four months from now? In the meantime, Duvernay-Tardif’s biggest career life accomplishment will be in actually helping save lives in the most vulnerable environment in Canada at the moment–long term care facilities. Yes, he won the Super Bowl this year, but what Duvernay-Tardif is doing right now means so much more.
