Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid of Richmond Hill, Ontario and Colorado Avalanche centre Nathan MacKinnon of Halifax, Nova Scotia were named captains on Saturday for the 2020 National Hockey League All-Star Game in St. Louis, Missouri. The game will take place on January 25.

McDavid will captain the Pacific Division and MacKinnon will captain the Central Division. The other two captains will be Washington Capitals left winger Alexander Ovechkin (Metropolitan Division captain) and Boston Bruins right winger David Pastrnak (Atlantic Division captain).

McDavid, who is a centre for the Oilers, currently leads the National Hockey League with 40 assists and 61 points in 39 games. He has 20 goals, is a -2, with 20 penalty minutes, 27 power play points, two game winning goals, 123 shots on goal, 168 faceoff wins, 16 blocked shots, 24 hits, 36 takeaways and 52 giveaways. McDavid has played in the 2017, 2018 and 2019 NHL All-Star Games.

Even though McDavid leads the NHL in assists and points, and the fact that the Oilers are in a playoff spot in the Western Conference, you could argue from a defensive perspective, it has been a disappointing season for the Oilers captain. He is a career worst -2 and for the first time has more giveaways than takeaways.

MacKinnon has 21 goals and 32 assists for 53 points in 36 games. He is a +5 with six penalty minutes, 18 power play points, three game winning goals, 166 shots on goal, 198 faceoff wins, 15 blocked shots, 29 hits, 16 takeaways and 28 giveaways. Like McDavid, MacKinnon has played in the 2017, 2018 and 2019 NHL All-Star Games.
