The Vancouver Canucks are in the second round of the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs. On Friday, they defeated the Nashville Predators 1-0 in game six of the first round of the Western Conference playoff series. With the win, the Canucks won the best out of seven series four games to two.
The Canucks’s heroes were forward Pius Suter and Arturs Silovs. Suter had the game-winning goal from Brock Boeser and Elias Petersson with one minute and 39 minutes seconds left in regulation.
Silovs has only played nine games for the Canucks over the last two seasons, and three playoff games. He recorded his first playoff shutout before recording a single regular season shutout. In Friday’s win, Silovs made 28 saves.
Vancouver now plays Edmonton in the Pacific Division Final in a series that will start soon. This will be only the third time in the history of the Canucks and Oilers organizations that they will have played against each other in the playoffs. Edmonton won in the first round in 1986 and the second round in 1992.
In an ironic statistic, there are 15 Canadians who played for the Oilers in game five against the Los Angeles Kings on Wednesday. Meanwhile, there were only two Canadian-born Canucks who played Friday in Nashville. They were left winger Phillip Di Giuseppe of Toronto, Ontario, and defenseman Carson Soucy of Viking, Alberta.
