Canada wins three medals at the 2026 World Athletics Relays in Botswana

Team Canada won three medals at the 2026 World Athletics Relays in Gaborone, Botswana on Sunday. It was the first time ever in the history of this international track meet that Canada won more than two medals. Audrey Leduc of Gatineau, Quebec and Marie-Eloise LeClair of Coquitlam, British Columbia each won two medals.

In the women’s 4×100 metre relay, the Canadian team of Sade McCreath of Ajax, Ontario, Donna Ntambue of Montreal, Quebec, Leduc, and LeClair, posted a silver medal winning time of 42.17 seconds in a national record. Jamaica won the gold medal with a time of 42.00 seconds. Spain won the bronze medal with a time of 42.31 seconds. Canada reached the podium by 0.44 seconds over Italy, which had a fourth place time of 42.61 seconds.

In the women’s 4×400 metre relay, the Canadian team of Lauren Gale of Fredericton, New Brunswick, Jasneet Nijjar of Surrey, British Columbia, Zoe Sherar of Toronto, Ontario, and Savannah Sutherland of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan won the bronze medal in the women’s 4×400 metres with a time of 3:22.66. Norway won the gold medal with a time of 3:20.96 and Spain won the silver medal with a time of 3:21.25. Canada reached the podium by 0.11 seconds over Great Britain, which had a fourth place time of 3:22.77.

In the mixed 4×100 metre relay, the Canadian team of LeClair, Leduc, Eliezer Adjibi of Ottawa, Ontario, and Duan Asemota of Montreal, had a silver medal time of 40.23 seconds. Jamaica won the gold medal with a world record time of 39.62 seconds. The United States won the bronze medal with a time of 40.33 seconds. Canada reached the podium by 0.29 seconds over Germany, which had a fourth place time of 40.52 seconds. The medals for McCreath, Ntambue, Leduc, LeClair, Gale, Nijjar, Sherar, Sutherland, Adjibi and Asemota will give them confidence as they prepare for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
