Canada wins Olympic bronze in mixed snowboardcross at 2022 Olympic Winter Games

Team Canada has earned a medal in the first ever Olympic mixed snowboardcross competition at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing. On Saturday, the Canadian team of Eliot Grondin of Levis, Quebec, and Meryeta O’Dine of Prince George, British Columbia reached the big final and placed behind the United States and Italy.

This was the second Olympic medal for Grondin and O’Dine at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing. Grondin won a silver medal in the men’s snowboardcross event, and O’Dine won a bronze medal in the women’s snowboard cross event.

In the Olympic mixed snowboardcross event, the American Olympic gold medalists were Nick Baumgartner and Lindsey Jacobellis. The Italian silver medalists were Omar Visintin and Michela Moioli.

In the women’s big final, O’Dine and Caterina Carpano of Italy both fell. This made a battle for gold where Jacobellis beat Moioli to the finish line for gold. However, after O’Dine and Carpano both got up after their fall, it was O’Dine who was the fastest to the finish line.

In the quarterfinals, Grondin and O’Dine finished second in heat three behind the Russian Olympic Committee. In the semifinals, Grondin and O’Dine finished second in heat two behind Italy.

Canada is now in fourth place in the overall medal standings with 13 medals. They are behind Norway, Austria and the Russian Olympic Committee. Norway and Austria each have 14 medals. The Russian Olympic Committee also have 13 medals, but have two more gold medals than Canada so far. Russia have three gold medals compared to one for Canada.
