Team Canada has improved to four wins and one loss at the 2019 International Ice Hockey Federation World Men’s Hockey Championships in Slovakia. On Saturday in Kosice, Canada trounced Germany 8-1. With the win, the Canadian squad moved into second place in Group A with 12 points and have clinched a spot into the quarterfinals.

In the Canadian win, Vegas Golden Knights right winger Mark Stone of Winnipeg, Manitoba led Team Canada with three goals. Meanwhile, Chicago Blackhawks center Dylan Strome of Mississauga, Ontario also had three points as he had three assists. Other Canadian players with a multi-point game were Detroit Red Wings winger Anthony Mantha, who had two goals, and Golden Knights center Jonathan Marchessault of Quebec City, Quebec who had two assists. The other Canadian goal scorers were Buffalo Sabres center Sam Reinhart of North Vancouver, British Columbia, Tampa Bay Lightning center Anthony Cirelli of Etobicoke, Ontario and Ottawa Senators defenseman Thomas Chabot of Saint-Marie, Quebec.

Team Canada has two more Group A games before they play in the quarterfinals on Thursday. They face Denmark on Monday and the United States on Tuesday. Both games will start at 12:15 MT. The team that Canada is trying to catch in Group A is Finland, who has a record of three wins and one overtime loss for 13 points. However Finland has Germany and France left, and the way Germany played Canada on Saturday there is minimal chance Germany will beat Finland.
