Three-time Canadian Olympic gold medalist gold medalist Colleen Sostorics of Kennedy, Saskatchewan has been inducted into the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame in Regina, Saskatchewan. Sostorics won a gold medal for Canada in women’s hockey at the 2002 Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City, the 2006 Olympic Winter Games in Turin and the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver.
In an announcement made on May 9, Sostorics is joined by Canadian Olympic bronze medalist Kelly Parker of Regina (women’s soccer), former Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman and left winger Wendel Clark of Kelvington, Saskatchewan, former National Hockey League president Clarence Campbell of Fleming, Saskatchewan, former University of Regina Cougars basketball player Chris Biegler of Regina, Pan American Games bronze medalist (women’s basketball) Curry Sihvon of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, softball Olympian Jacki Nichol of Swift Current, Saskatchewan and Cycling Canada president Bill Kanish of Regina.
A defenseman, Sostorics had one goal and eight assists for nine points in 15 games in Olympic women’s hockey. Her goal came in an 18-0 Canadian win over Slovakia on February 13, 2010 at the Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver. She also won three gold medals for Canada at the Women’s World Hockey Championship–2001 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, 2004 in Halifax, Nova Scotia and in 2007 in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Parker meanwhile won her Olympic bronze medal in women’s soccer at the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Sihvon won her bronze medal in women’s basketball at the 1967 Pan American Games in Winnipeg, while Nichol represented Canada in women’s softball at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney.
