Maxim Trepanier of St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec led the Halifax Mooseheads in scoring to open the 2019 Memorial Cup. On Friday at the Scotiabank Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Trepanier notched three assists as the Mooseheads beat the Prince Albert Raiders 4-1.
Trepanier notched an assist on the Mooseheads opening goal of the game by Samuel Asselin of L’Assomption, Quebec at 10:49 of the first period to put the Mooseheads up 1-0. Raphael Lavoie of Chambly, Quebec picked up the other assist.
Trepanier then got an assist on the Mooseheads game winning goal at 18:44 of the first period to put Halifax up 2-0. Xavier Parent of Blainville, Quebec scored the goal with Asselin picking up the other assist. Trepanier’s third point then came on a third period power play goal by the Mooseheads which put them up 3-1. This goal came at 15:52 of the second period by Jake Ryczek. Keith Getson of Bridgewater, Nova Scotia picked up the other assist. The other Mooseheads goal scorer in the game was Antoine Morand of Mercier, Quebec, who scored into an empty net at 18:07 of the third period to put Halifax up 4-1.
Saturday’s game will have the Ontario Hockey League champion Guelph Storm face the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League champion Rouyn Noranda Huskies. The Mooseheads next game is Sunday evening against the Storm. The Raiders next game is Monday evening against the Huskies.
