Team Canada has won the gold medal of the 2024 World Para Ice Hockey Championships in Calgary, Alberta. On Sunday, Canada defeated the United States 2-1 at the Markin MacPhail Centre.

It was a strong start for the Canadians as Dominic Cozzolino of Kitchener, Ontario scored 35 seconds into the contest after dominant sustained pressure. He found himself wide open at the side of the net and buried a scoring opportunity. Remarkably, it was Canada’s only shot on goal in the entire first period as the United States had the 7-1 first period shot on goal advantage.

In the second period, Canada went up 2-0. Forward Anton Jacobs-Webb of Gatineau, Quebec provided the Canadians with a key insurance marker. Both Canadian goals had something in common. Tyler McGregor of Forest, Ontario picked up the assists.

The United States scored the lone third period goal of the game. However, it came a little, too late.

Another Canadian star was goaltender Adam Kingsmill of Smithers, British Columbia. The Mount Royal University Cougars Athletic Therapy student made 24 saves on 25 shots.

This was the 13th World Para Ice Hockey Championships, and the first time Canada won on Canadian ice. They previously won in 2000 in West Valley City, Utah, in 2008 in Marlborough, Massachusetts, in 2013 in Goyang, South Korea, and in 2017 in Gangneung, South Korea.
