Team Canada has improved to a record of four wins and two losses at the 2022 Women’s World Curling Championship in Prince George, British Columbia. On Tuesday, Canada defeated Japan 10-4.
The Canadian team which is skipped by Kerri Einarson of Selkirk, Manitoba out of the Gimli Curling Club, also in Manitoba, got off to a strong start. In Team Canada’s first two ends with the hammer, they picked up two points in each end. After a deuce in the second and fourth ends, they had a 4-2 lead.
The two-point advantage continued after the sixth end, as Canada took a 5-3 lead. After Japan cut the Canadian lead to one after seven ends, Einarson’s Team Canada squad scored three points in the eighth end, and then stole two more points in the ninth end.
From a statistical perspective, the biggest positional difference came at third. Val Sweeting curled 92%, while Seina Nakajima was only at 68%.
Canada has dominated the four afternoon draws so far at the Women’s World Curling Championship. They have outscored their opponents in 35-14 in that time frame. Team Canada meanwhile is 0-2 at night, and have their first morning game on Wednesday against Sweden.
Canada is in fourth place at the moment. Switzerland and South Korea are both undefeated at 6-0, with Sweden in third at 6-1.
