The Canadian win on Wednesday at the Women’s World Curling Championship in Prince George, British Columbia was far from pretty, but at the end of the day, it was good enough. In a 10-8 win over Sweden, Team Canada had a strong start and a lousy finish.

The first three ends, Canada was in fact dominant. They scored three points in the first end, and had back-to-back steals in the second and third ends, to take a 5-0 lead. In the first end, Canadian skip Kerri Einarson of Gimli. Manitoba had a marvelous split, to pick up three. Then in the fifth end, Einarson had a neat double take-out to score three more points, and take the convincing 8-2 lead on a Swedish team that won the gold medal at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang.

However after a solid first five ends, Team Canada curled poorly in the second half, as they were outscored 6-2. They simply need to do a much better job in protecting leads, and one way to do that is to put less rocks in play. Sweden was by far the more aggressive bunch and nearly came away with an amazing comeback.

Canada is in a tie with South Korea for third place at six wins and two losses. Switzerland leads at eight wins and zero losses, while Sweden is in second at seven wins and two losses.
