Kerri Einarson of Selkirk, Manitoba won her third game on Monday at the 2022 Women’s World Curling Championship in Prince George, British Columbia. After beating Italy 9-2 on Saturday, and Turkey 8-4 on Sunday, the Canadian team based out of Gimli, Manitoba, beat Denmark 8-4 after nine ends on Monday to improve to a record of three wins and two losses.
The turning point in the contest came in the sixth end. Thanks to two marvelous shots by Team Canada third Val Sweeting, Canada picked up three points, and took a 5-3 lead, after trailing Denmark at the halfway point of the game by a score of 3-2. A steal of two points in the next end then put Canada up by a convincing 7-3 score.
In an interesting twist, Canada has been dominant in their three afternoon draws, outscoring their opponents 25-10. However, they have been awful in the the evening draws, as they were clobbered by Switzerland in a convincing 11-3 defeat on Sunday, and had all sorts of trouble reading the ice in a 6-4 loss to Norway on Saturday.
In the standings, Canada is in fifth place behind Switzerland (5-0), South Korea (4-0), Japan (4-1), and Sweden (4-1). In other curling news, Nova Scotia champion skip Jill Brothers is leaving her Nova Scotia-based team to be the second for Andrea Crawford’s New Brunswick-based squad according to TSN.
