Canada announces roster for 2024 World Men’s Hockey Championship

We now know who will be on Team Canada for the 2024 International Ice Hockey Federation World Men’s Hockey Championship in Prague, Czech Republic that starts Friday. Canada’s first game is against Great Britain on Saturday. Canada will also play Denmark, Austria, Norway, Finland, Switzerland, and Czech Republic.

Of the players on the roster are four players on a Canadian National Hockey League team. They are Toronto Maple Leafs centre and Canadian Olympic gold medalist John Tavares of Mississauga, Ontario; Ottawa Senators centre Ridly Greig of Lethbridge, Alberta; Calgary Flames left winger Andrew Mangiapane of Toronto, Ontario; and Montreal Canadiens defenseman Kaiden Guhle of Edmonton, Alberta.

The three goalies are St. Louis Blues’s netminders Jordan Binnington of Richmond Hill, Ontario, and Joel Hofer of Winnipeg, Manitoba, and New Jersey Devils goaltender Nico Daws of Burlington, Ontario. The other six defensemen are Bowen Byram of Cranbrook, British Columbia (Buffalo Sabres), Jamie Oleksiak of Toronto (Seattle Kraken), Colton Parayko of St. Albert, Alberta (St. Louis Blues), Owen Power of Mississauga (Buffalo Sabres), Damon Severson of Melville, Saskatchewan (Columbus Blue Jackets), and Olen Zellweger of Calgary, Alberta (Anaheim Ducks).

The other 11 forwards are Chicago Blackhawks centre Connor Bedard of North Vancouver, British Columbia, Pittsburgh Penguins left winger Michael Bunting of Scarborough, Ontario, Buffalo Sabres left winger Dylan Cozens of Whitehorse, Yukon; Los Angeles Kings center Pierre-Luc Dubois of Ste-Agathe-des-Monts, Quebec, Utah right winger Dylan Guenther of Edmonton, Alberta; Tampa Bay Lightning left winger Brandon Hagel of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan; Utah center Jack McBain of Toronto; Seattle Kraken center Jared McCann of London, Ontario; New Jersey Devils right winger Dawson Mercer of Carbonear, Newfoundland;  Tampa Bay Lightning center Nick Paul of Mississauga, Ontario; and Seattle Kraken left winger Brandon Tanev of Toronto. Tavares won a gold medal for Canada at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi.
