Cam Talbot records 33rd career shutout

Cam Talbot of Caledonia, Ontario recorded his 33rd National Hockey League shutout on Saturday. He accomplished the feat by making 28 saves in a 2-0 Detroit Red Wings win over the Tampa Bay Lightning at the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan.

Talbot made seven saves in the first period, nine saves in the second period, and 12 saves in the third period. Lightning star Nikita Kucherov led Tampa Bay with seven shots on goal.

Offensively, Michael Rasmussen of Surrey, British Columbia scored one of two Detroit goals. He scored an insurance goal into an empty net from rookie defenseman Albert Johansson with 28 seconds left in the third period.

In 2024-25, Talbot has a record of 13 wins, 10 regulation losses, and two losses in extra time with two shutouts. He has a goals against average of 2.90 and a save percentage of .906. Talbot’s other shutout this season came on October 12 in a 3-0 Red Wings win over the Nashville Predators.

Of Talbot’s 33 NHL shutouts, 12 have been with the Edmonton Oilers, eight have been with the New York Rangers, five have been with the Minnesota Wild, three have been with the Los Angeles Kings, two each with the Detroit Red Wings and Calgary Flames and one with the Ottawa Senators. With the win, the Red Wings have a record of 23 wins, 21 regulation losses and five losses in extra time for 51 points. They are four points back of the Tampa Bay Lightning and Columbus Blue Jackets for a playoff spot.
