Brandon Montour scores fastest goal to start overtime in NHL history

Seattle Kraken defenseman Brandon Montour of Ohsweken, Ontario scored the fastest goal to start overtime in National Hockey League history. He accomplished the feat on Wednesday, in a 5-4 Kraken win over the Montreal Canadiens four seconds into the extra period in a regular season game from Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle, Washington. Chandler Stephenson of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, who won the faceoff, and passed the puck immediately to Montour, picked up the lone assist.

For Montour, it was one of two goals he scored in the game. The other began the scoring at 4:54 of the first period from captain Jordan Eberle of Regina, Saskatchewan.

This was Montour’s third game-winning goal for the Kraken this season. The first came in a 3-2 Kraken win over the Anaheim Ducks on November 25. He scored from Shane Wright of Burlington, Ontario with one minute and 10 seconds left in the third period to break a 2-2 deadlock. Montour’s second game-winning goal came in a 6-2 Kraken win over the San Jose Sharks. Montour scored from Wright at 2:54 of the second period which put Seattle up 3-1 at the time.

In 2024-25, Montour has 15 goals and 21 assists for 36 points in 65 games. He is a -15 with 43 penalty minutes, 10 power-play points, 190 shots on goal, 79 blocked shots. 69 hits, 19 giveaways, and 73 takeaways.
