Audrey Leduc shines for Team Quebec at the 2022 Canada Games

Audrey Leduc of Gatineau, Quebec was the star on Friday at the 2022 Canada Summer Games in Niagara Falls, Ontario. The 23-year-old sprinter won two gold medals for Canada. On the individual level, Leduc placed first in the female 100 metres, and then in a team event, Leduc was on the Quebec squad which won the gold medal in the female 4×100 metres.

Both gold medals came in Canada Summer Games record times according to the Canadian Press. Leduc’s 100 metre time was 11.55 seconds. She broke the record previously held by Cindy Moore of Ontario, who ran for a gold medal winning time of 11.56 seconds at the 1977 Canada Summer Games in St. John’s, Newfoundland. The silver medalist on Friday in the female 100 metres was Katherine Lucas of Vancouver, British Columbia, who ran to a time of 11.84 seconds. Amy Candrlic of Calgary, Alberta won the bronze medal with a time of 11.88 seconds.

In the female 4×100 metres, Quebec’s gold medal winning time was 44.74 seconds. British Columbia had the old record of 45.61 seconds at the 1993 Canada Summer Games in Kamloops, British Columbia. The silver medal winning province on Friday was Alberta, with a time of 46.32 seconds. The bronze medal winning province on Friday was Saskatchewan, with a time of 46.49 seconds.

Quebec won three gold medals in athletics at the Canada Games on Saturday. Gabriel Dupuy of Saint-Constant, Quebec placed first in the male 100 metre Special Olympics Division with a time of 11.3 seconds. Clison Djanebaye of Sherbrooke, Quebec won gold in the male 100 metre wheelchair division with a time of 17.3 seconds. Catherine Beauchemin of Quebec City, Quebec won the gold medal in the female 1500 metres with a time of four minutes and 25 seconds.

Leduc then won a third gold medal on Saturday in the female 200 metres. She posted a first place time of 23.70 seconds. Grace Konrad of Edmonton, Alberta won the silver medal with a time of 23.85 seconds. Audrey Jackson of Chateauguay, Quebec won the bronze medal with a time of 23.94 seconds.

On Friday, Saskatchewan won their first gold medal of the Canada Summer Games. Savannah Sutherland of Borden placed first in the women’s 100 metre hurdles with a time of 59.8 seconds. Tolu Akinduro of Toronto, Ontario won the silver medal with a time of 1:01.19. Marie-Frederique Poulin of Trois-Rivieres, Quebec won the bronze medal with a time of 1:01.68.

Ontario leads the Canada Summer Games medal standings with 155 medals. Quebec is second with 115 medals.
