The Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League have named Danny Maciocia of Montreal, Quebec as their new head coach according to Caio Miari of The Score. Maciocia had been with the Alouettes as their general manager since 2020. He takes over from Khari Jones, who he fired on Wednesday.

This will be Maciocia’s second time as a CFL head coach. He was previously the Edmonton Eskimos’ head coach from 2005 to 2008. In that time, the Eskimos had a record of 33 wins and 38 losses and one tie. In 2005, Maciocia guided the Eskimos to a Grey Cup championship. The Eskimos defeated the Alouettes 38-35 in overtime at BC Place Stadium in Vancouver. The game was also known by the fact that Canadian supermodel and actress Pamela Anderson of Ladysmith, British Columbia was the Grand Marshal of the Grey Cup parade.

After four games, the Alouettes have a record of one win and three losses. Their lone win came on June 23 in a 37-13 Alouettes win over the Saskatchewan Roughriders. In addition to firing head coach Khari Jones, Maciocia also fired defensive co-ordinator Barron Miles. So far this season, the Alouettes had given up the third most points in the CFL with 104. Only the Edmonton Elks (140 points) and the Hamilton Tiger-Cats (118 points) had given up more. The Alouettes’s first game with Maciocia as their new head coach is July 14 against Edmonton.
