World Cup alpine skiing events at Lake Louise in 2020 cancelled due to coronavirus

The World Cup events in alpine skiing at Lake Louise that were scheduled to take place this fall have been cancelled because of coronavirus according to the Canadian Press on Thursday. There will be a World Cup alpine skiing season scheduled in 2020-21, but all races will take place in Europe.

The races were scheduled to take place at Lake Louise, Alberta, from November 25 to December 6. Traditionally, the men’s World Cup takes place on the weekend preceding the women. There is normally one downhill and one super giant slalom race for the men, and then two downhill races and one super giant slalom race for the women.

In the United States, World Cup alpine skiing races have also  been cancelled in Killington, Vermont; Vail, Colorado and Beaver Creek, Colorado. As a result, there will be more World Cup alpine skiing races in St. Moritz, Switzerland, and Val d’Isere, France in 2019-20.

In the 2019-20 alpine skiing season, Roni Remme of Collingwood, Ontario won Canada’s lone medal. She won a silver medal in the women’s alpine combined in Crans-Montana, Switzerland on February 24, 2019.

This past November, Max Franz of Austria won the men’s World Cup downhill race at Lake Louise, while Kjetil Jansrud of Norway won the men’s World Cup super giant slalom race. Meanwhile this past December, Nicole Schmidhofer of Austria won both of the women’s World Cup downhill races in Lake Louise, while Mikaela Shiffrin of the United States won the women’s World Cup super giant slalom race.
