Former Calgary Flames head coach Bill Peters of Three Hills, Alberta, has tested positive with coronavirus, according to CBC Sports on Thursday. Peters is currently living in Russia, where he is preparing to be the head coach of Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg in Russia’s Kontinental Hockey League.

Peters spent six seasons coaching in the National Hockey League with the Calgary Flames and Carolina Hurricanes. He was with the Hurricanes from 2014 to 2018, and with the Flames from 2018 to 2019. In 437 games, Peters had a record of 198 wins, 175 regulation losses and 64 losses in extra time. In the 2018-19 regular season while coaching the Flames, Peters guided Calgary to a Pacific Division regular season title with 107 points (50 wins, 25 regulation losses and seven losses in extra time), but the Flames were beaten in the first round in five games to the Colorado Avalanche.

During the 2019-20 regular season, the Flames got off to a slow start with Peters as their head coach. Calgary had a record of 11 wins, 12 regulation losses and four losses in extra points for 26 points. However on November 29, 2019, Peters submitted his resignation following allegations of verbal and physical abuse toward multiple players from the past.

Peters is the first Canadian to coach Avtomobolist Yekaterinberg. There are currently 942, 106 cases of coronavirus in Russia, and 16,099 deaths.
