It was quite simply an amazing weekend for Chicago White Sox outfielder Tristan Peters of Winkler, Manitoba. First, he hit for the cycle on Friday night in a 14-1 White Sox win over the Athletics. Then on Saturday, Peters was named an American League All-Star. According to Michael Coyle of bluejaysnation.com, he is replacing Athletics first baseman Nick Kurtz, who is out with a thumb injury.
Peters is the fifth Canadian to hit for the cycle. He follows outfielder George Wood of Pownal, Prince Edward Island (for the Detroit Wolverines in a 17-9 loss to the Chicago White Stockings on June 13, 1885), outfielder Tip O’Neill of Springfield, Ontario (for the St. Louis Browns in a 7-3 win over the Cleveland Blues on April 30, 1887 and for the Browns in a 12-7 win over the Louisville Colonels on May 7, 1887), catcher George Kottaras of Scarborough, Ontario (for the Milwaukee Brewers in an 8-2 Brewers win over the Houston Astros on September 3, 2011), and first baseman Freddie Freeman (for the Atlanta Braves in a 9-8 Braves win over the Cincinnati Reds on June 15, 2016 and for the Braves in an 11-9 Braves win over the Miami Marlins on August 18, 2021).
In Major League Baseball history, Peters is also the fifth player ever to hit for the cycle while batting ninth in the batting order according to Rogers Sportsnet. He ht a double in the third inning, single in the fifth inning, and home run and triple in the seventh inning.
Peters is the third MLB player to hit for the cycle this season (following Pete Crow-Armstrong in a 5-4 Chicago Cubs win over the Colorado Rockies on June 15, 2026 and Bryce Harper in a 15-3 Phillies win over the New York Mets on June 20, 2026).
This season, Peters is batting .301 with six home runs and 36 runs batted in. During 91 games, 249 at bats and 275 plate appearances, Peters has scored 37 runs and had 75 hits, 20 doubles, three triples, five stolen bases, 18 walks, 119 total bases, four sacrifice bunts, one sacrifice fly, an on base percentage of .354 and a slugging percentage of .478. Peters had six RBIs in a 22-1 White Sox win over the Kansas City Royals on June 26.
Peters is the fourth Canadian to participate in the 2026 MLB All-Star Game. He is joined by Miami Marlins shortstop Otto Lopez of Montreal, Quebec, Cleveland Guardians closer Cade Smith of Abbotsford, British Columbia and Freeman.
The White Sox meanwhile lead the American League Central. They have a record of 50 wins and 45 losses.
