According to Paul Kasabian of Bleacher Report on Tuesday, Toronto Blue Jays first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. of Montreal, Quebec has won the American League Silver Slugger Award at first base in 2024. This is the second time he had received the honour as he also won the American League Silver Slugger Award at first base in 2021.
This past season, Guerrero Jr. batted .323 with 40 home runs and 103 runs batted in. During 159 games, 616 at bats, and 697 plate appearances, he scored 98 runs and had 199 hits, 44 doubles, one triple, two stolen bases, 72 walks, 335 total bases, and four sacrifice flies. The triple came in a 7-6 Blue Jays win over the Baltimore Orioles on August 8. In this contest, Guerrero Jr. had a double, triple, and home run.
Guerrero Jr. had two more notable games throughout the season. He had six runs batted in during a 9-3 Blue Jays win over the New York Yankees on June 29 and two home runs in a 4-0 Blue Jays win over the Texas Rangers on September 19.
This past season, Guerrero Jr. had career highs in hits (199), doubles (44), and batting average (.323). He had the second best batting average in the Major Leagues. He was only behind Bobby Witt Jr. of the Kansas City Royals, who had a batting average of .332, and third in the Major Leagues in hits. Guerrero Jr. was only behind Witt Jr. (211) and Luis Arraez of the San Diego Padres (200).
