San Jose Sharks goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood of Thunder Bay, Ontario recorded his 11th National Hockey League career shutout on Sunday. He accomplished the feat in a 1-0 Sharks win over the New Jersey Devils.

Blackwood had 44 saves overall for the shutout. He made 10 saves in the first period, 15 saves in the second period, and 19 saves in the third period. Jesper Bratt and Jack Hughes led the Devils with eight shots on goal each.

Interestingly, this was Blackwood’s 11th NHL career shutout. Ironically, eight shutouts have come with the team he blanked on Sunday, the New Jersey Devils. This was Blackwood’s third NHL shutout with the Sharks.

In Sunday’s 1-0 Sharks win, the lone Sharks goal scorer was Nico Sturm. The native of Augsburg, Germany, who won a Stanley Cup with the Colorado Avalanche in 2022, scored from Carl Grundstrom and defenseman Henry Thrun.

This past season, Blackwood had a record of three wins, four regulation losses, and two losses in extra time. He had a goals against average of 3.10 and a save percentage of .910.

The Sharks win over the Devils would be considered an upset too. San Jose is last in the Pacific Division with 12 points. The Devils lead the Metropolitan Division with 22 points.
