Victoire sign forward Emma Maltais

The Montreal Victoire of the Professional Women’s Hockey League has signed Canadian Olympic gold medalist Emma Maltais of Burlington, Ontario according to the Associated Press on Tuesday. Maltais, who won a gold medal for Canada in women’s hockey at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing, played the last three PWHL seasons with the Toronto Sceptres.

Maltais had three goals and seven assists for 10 points in 30 games in 2025-26. She was a -8 with 24 penalty minutes, 221 faceoff wins, one game-winning goal, 24 blocked shots and 52 shots.

Maltais’s game-winning goal in 2025-26 came on February 27 in a 5-2 Sceptres win over the Seattle Torrent. Maltais scored at 5:56 of the third period on an all-Canadian goal to put Toronto up 3-2 at the time. Canadian Olympic gold medalists Natalie Spooner of Scarborough, Ontario, and Renata Fast of Hamilton, Ontario had the assists. Spooner won a gold medal for Canada at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi and at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing. Fast won a gold medal for Canada at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing.

In 84 games with the Sceptres over three seasons, Maltais has 11 goals and 27 assists for 38 points. She is a -6 with 54 penalty minutes, 344 faceoff wins, one power-play goal, two shorthanded goals, two game-winning goals, 41 blocked shots, and 135 shots.

Maltais’s first shorthanded goal was her first game-winning goal in the PWHL. It came in a 3-2 Sceptres win over the New York Sirens on January 5, 2024. Maltais scored from Canadian Olympic gold medalist Jocelyne Larocque of Ste. Anne, Manitoba and Jesse Compher at 6:34 of the third period to break a 2-2 tie. Larocque won a gold medal at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi and the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing.

The second shorthanded goal Maltais scored in her PWHL career came on March 8, 2024 in a 3-0 Sceptres win over the Victoire. Maltais scored into an empty net from Canadian Olympic gold medalist Blayre Turnbull of Stellarton, Nova Scotia and Allie Munroe of Yarmouth, Nova Scotia on an all-Canadian goal with one minute and six seconds left in the third period to complete the scoring. Turnbull won a gold medal for Canada at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing.

Maltais’s power-play goal came on February 23, 2025. Maltais scored from Savannah Harmon and Compher at 11:58 of the second period to tie the game at one.
