On Wednesday, Minnesota won the first ever Walter Cup as the Professional Women’s Hockey League champions. In game five of the championship final, Minnesota beat Boston 3-0 at the Tsongas Center in Lowell, Massachusetts and in the process won the best out of five series three games to two.
On Minnesota’s championship winning roster were three Canadians. They were centre Michela Cava of Thunder Bay, Ontario, and defensemen Emma Greco of Burlington, Ontario and Sophie Jaques of Toronto, Ontario.
In the 2024 PWHL playoffs, Cava had four goals and four assists for eight points in 10 games. She was a +6 with one game winning goal, and 25 shots on goal. The game-winning goal came in a 3-0 Minnesota win over Boston in game two of the series. Remarkably after not registering a point against Toronto in the semifinal, Cava had eight points in five games against Boston. She had one goal and two assists for three points in game one, one goal in game two, and one goal and one assist for two points in game three and five.
Jaques meanwhile had two goals and three assists for five points in 10 games. She was a +6 with two penalty minutes and 28 shots on net. Jaques scored the other two goals for Minnesota in the 3-0 game two win.
