The University of Montreal Carabins and the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack won the 2022 Canadian USport National Soccer Championships on Sunday. In the women’s final, the Carabins defeated the University of Laval Rouge et Or 1-0 in an all-Quebec final from Quebec City, Quebec. In the men’s final, the WolfPack beat the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds 2-1 from Kamloops, British Columbia in a championship final that went to penalty kicks.

In the women’s final, Justine Lalande of Laval, Quebec scored the lone goal in the game in the 75th minute. This was the second time the Carabins have won the CIS Women’s Soccer Championship. They previously won the 2017 Gladys Bean Memorial Trophy in Winnipeg, Manitoba by beating the Cape Breton University Capers 1-0 in the championship final.

In the men’s final, the WolfPack and the Thunderbirds played the first two halves of the contest to a 0-0 deadlock. Then, Alesandro Comita, a midfielder from Kamloops, scored for the Wolfpack in the 100th minute (10th minute of extra time). Then in the 114th minute (14th minute of extra time), Daniel Kaiser of Calgary, Alberta tied the game for the Thunderbirds. Another WolfPack midfielder, Domenico Comita of Kamloops, scored the game-winning goal in penalty kicks. A major reason why Thompson Rivers was victorious is because one Thunderbirds shot hit the post. In winning the CIS Men’s Soccer Championship, the WolfPack won the Sam Davidson Memorial Trophy.
