The Toronto Argonauts will be playing the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Sunday with the 2022 Grey Cup on the line from Mosaic Stadium in Regina Saskatchewan. This will be the seventh time in the history of the Grey Cup that Toronto has played Winnipeg. The six previous times were 1937, 1938, 1945, 1946, 1947 and 1950, with the Argonauts winning all six times.

The 1950 Grey Cup is famously known as the Mud Bowl. The game was played at Varsity Stadium in Toronto, Ontario, with the Argonauts winning 13-0. The reason why the game was called the Mud Bowl is because heavy equipment used to clear the snow ended up damaging the turf. On the day of the Grey Cup, it had rained making the conditions extremely icy. Teams had a tough time moving the ball down field in the mud, and thus only 13 points were scored.

Fast forward 72 years later, and the Argonauts and Blue Bombers had no problem moving the football in the divisional finals on Sunday. In the West Final, the Blue Bombers beat the British Columbia Lions 28-20 at IG Field in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Three Canadians shined for Winnipeg. Brady Oliveira of Winnipeg, Manitoba had 20 rushes for 130 yards and five catches for 37 yards. Meanwhile, Blue Bombers wide receiver Nic Demski of Winnipeg, Manitoba had five catches for 74 yards, and Marc Liegghio of Woodbridge, Ontario made three field goals from 16, 24 and 32 yards.

Meanwhile, two Canadian Argonauts were instrumental in the East Final. Andrew Harris of Winnipeg, Manitoba had nine rushes for 42 yards and one rushing touchdown, and one catch for 30 yards, while Kurleigh Gittens Jr. of Ottawa, Ontario had nine catches for 97 yards and one touchdown as the Argonauts beat the Montreal Alouettes 34-27 at the Bank of Montreal Field in Toronto. Harris had a six-yard touchdown to open the scoring at 5:20 of the first quarter. Then, Gittens Jr. had a 31-yard touchdown catch with 21 seconds left in the third quarter to put the Argonauts up 33-24.

In the 2022 Canadian Football League regular season, the Blue Bombers played the Argonauts once. Winnipeg was victorious 23-22 on July 4 in Toronto.
