Team Canada came away with a victory in men’s and women’s curling on Day seven of the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing. In men’s curling, Canada beat Norway 6-5, and in women’s curling, Canada beat South Korea 12-7.
The Canadian men’s team skipped by Brad Gushue of St. John’s, improved to 2-0, as he previously beat Denmark 10-5. In the win against Norway, Gushue was in complete control throughout the entire game, as the Norwegians never had the lead or the hammer with the game tied. It also helped Team Canada that they had the hammer in the first end. Losing the draw to the button to determine last rock in the first end was a significant part of Team Canada’s struggles in mixed doubles curling earlier in the week.
It was a fine performance by Jennifer Jones’s Winnipeg-based team in women’s curling. The team was able to bounce back and score three points in the fourth end after South Korea scored three points in the third end when Canadian third Kaitlyn Lawes bumped a South Korean guard into the house on a draw attempt. Team Canada then scored three points in the seventh, and a steal of two in the 10th for a six-point win. On day eight, Canada will play Japan in women’s curling (Thursday, 11 p.m. MT) and Switzerland in men’s curling (Friday, 5 a.m. MT).
