Taylor Pendrith of Richmond Hill, Ontario leads the 2024 CJ Cup Byron Nelson in Dallas, Texas. On Saturday, Pendrith was simply fantastic, as he marched from fifth to first on the leaderboard, and has a one stroke lead on American Jake Knapp of Costa Mesa, California.
Pendrith shot a score of eight-under-par 63 on Saturday and moved from -11 to -19 on moving day. He eagled the fifth and sixth holes, and birdies the second, ninth, 12th, and 13th holes.
Pendrith is one of only three players this season to register back-to-back eagles. He is the second Canadian to accomplish the feat following Adam Svensson of Surrey, British Columbia at the Sony Open in Hawaii. The only other player on the PGA Tour to do this is Ryan Fox of Auckland, New Zealand at the Players Championship.
On the par five fifth hole on Saturday, Pendrith chipped the ball in from 26 feet and 11 inches. Then on the sixth hole, Pendrith made an approach shot from 41 yards as he eagled a par four with a score of two.
Two more golfers are in contention at -17. They are England’s Matt Wallace and American Ben Kohles.
Pendrith is currently 107th in the world. There are currently five Canadians ranked inside the top 100. Nick Taylor of Winnipeg, Manitoba is 27th, Adam Hadwin of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan is 48th, Corey Conners of Listowel, Ontario is 51st, Mackenzie Hughes of Hamilton, Ontario is 68th, and Svensson is 81st.
