
Taylor Hall of Calgary, Alberta recorded his sixth career National Hockey League hat trick on Sunday. He accomplished the feat in a 5-2 Carolina Hurricanes win over the Anaheim Ducks at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.
Hall scored all three of his goals in the third period. He scored the game-winning goal at 2:32 on the power-play from Seth Jarvis of Winnipeg, Manitoba and Jackson Blake to put the Hurricanes up 3-1. Hall then put the Hurricanes up 4-2 from Jesper Kotkaniemi and Jack Roslovic with two minutes and 47 seconds left in the game. Then the hat trick came into an empty net as Hall scored from Roslovic with one minute and 58 seconds left in the game.
There were three Hurricanes to score for Carolina. The other two were Mark Jankowski of Hamilton, Ontario and Jordan Martinook of Brandon, Manitoba.
This was Hall’s second hat trick this season. The first came on November 27, 2024 in a 6-2 Chicago Blackhawks upset win over the Dallas Stars. Hall is the first player in eight years to record a hat trick with two different teams in the same season. The last was Thomas Vanek, who scored thrice for the Vancouver Canucks and Columbus Blue Jackets in 2017-18.
Hall’s four other hat tricks came with the Edmonton Oilers. He scored three times in a 5-3 Oilers win over the Atlanta Thrashers on February 19, 2011, thrice in a 9-2 Oilers win over the Chicago Blackhawks on November 19, 2011, three times in a 4-0 Oilers win over the Vancouver Canucks on March 30, 2013 and thrice in an 8-2 Oilers win over the Colorado Avalanche on December 5, 2013.
In 2024-25, Hall has 15 goals and 20 assists for 35 points in 66 games. He is a -7 with 28 penalty minutes, five power-play points, two game-winning goals, 123 shots on goal, 39 faceoff wins, 39 blocked shots, 40 hits, 32 takeaways, and 61 giveaways. Hall’s other game-winning goal this season came on December 9, 2024 in a 2-1 Blackhawks win over the New York Rangers. Hall scored from Connor Bedard of North Vancouver, British Columbia and Jason Dickinson of Georgetown, Ontario at 6:16 of the second period to put the Blackhawks up 2-1.
With the win over the Ducks, the Hurricanes improved to a record of 43 wins, 23 regulation losses and four losses in extra time for 90 points. They are in second place in the Metropolitan Division.
