Edmonton Oilers goaltender Stuart Skinner of Edmonton, Alberta collected his first career National Hockey League Stanley Cup playoff shutout on Sunday. He accomplished the feat in a 1-0 Oilers win over the Los Angeles Kings at Crypto.com Arena. With the win, the Oilers now lead the Kings three games to one in their best out of seven Western Conference first round playoff series.
Skinner made 33 saves overall. He made 10 saves in the first period, 10 saves in the second period, and 13 saves in the third period. Trevor Moore led the Kings with five shots on goal.
The Oilers lone goal of the game came at 11:49 of the second period. That is when defenseman Evan Bouchard of Oakville, Ontario scored on the power-play from Connor McDavid of Richmond Hill, Ontario and Leon Draisaitl.
This was a different way the Oilers normally win a hockey game. Usually, the Oilers have a run and gun style with high potent offense. However, on Sunday they won because of their strong goaltending.
Skinner has four regular season shutouts. He blanked the San Jose Sharks 3-0 on February 14, 2022, the Kings 2-0 on March 30, 2023, the Washington Capitals 5-0 on November 24, 2023 and the Sharks 5-0 on December 28, 2023. The Oilers can close out the series on Wednesday in Edmonton.
