Sirens trade Jill Saulnier to Fleet

According to TSN on Tuesday, there was a trade made in the Professional Women’s Hockey League involving a Canadian Olympic gold medalist. The New York Sirens have traded Canadian Olympic gold medalist Jill Saulnier of Halifax, Nova Scotia to the Boston Fleet for Taylor Girard.

Saulnier, who won a gold medal for Canada at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing, does not have a point this season in five games for New York. She is a -1 with one faceoff win and two shots on goal. During the 2024 PWHL season, Saulnier had one goal and one assist for two points. She was a -5 with 10 penalty minutes, 12 faceoff wins ands 23 shots on goal. The goal came in the very first PWHL game ever played, a 4-0 New York win over Toronto on New Year’s Day, 2024. Saulnier scored from Jade Downie-Landry of Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec and Chloe Aurard at 2:53 of the third period to put New York up 3-0 at the time.

Girard, an American left winger, had four goals and two assists for six points in 23 games last season for Boston, and is still looking for her first PWHL point this season. In the PWHL standings, New York is in fourth place with 16 points, and Boston is in fifth place with 12 points.
