Sidney Crosby named NHL first star of the Week to begin 2022-23

Pittsburgh Penguins center Sidney Crosby of Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia was named the National Hockey League first star of the week for the time period from October 7 to 16. In two games, Crosby had two goals and four assists for six points.

On October 13, Crosby had one goal and two assists for three points in a 6-2 Pittsburgh win over the Arizona Coyotes. On October 15, he had one goal and two assists for three points again for Pittsburgh in a 6-2 Pittsburgh win over the Tampa Bay Lightning. Crosby, who won the gold medal for Canada in men’s hockey at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, and the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, was also a +3 with two penalty minutes, three power-play points, nine shots on goal, three hits and 13 faceoff wins.

Even though the Penguins won their first two games, they lost their first game of the season on Monday. They were upset 3-2 by the Montreal Canadiens in overtime at the Bell Centre. Kirby Dach of Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta scored the game winning goal from Sean Monahan of Brampton, Ontario and Nick Suzuki of London, Ontario at 3:09 of the extra period on the power-play. Crosby was a -2 in the contest with only one shot on goal.
