CF Montreal has won their opening game of the 2022 Major League Soccer Playoffs. On Sunday, they got goals from Ismael Kone of Abidjan, Ivory Coast and Dorde Mihailovic of the United States in a 2-0 win over Orlando City at Saputo Stadium in Montreal, Quebec in the first round of the postseason.

Kone scored in the 68th minute. Mihailovic scored in the 9th minute of extra time in the second half on a penalty kick. Even though Kone was born in the Ivory Coast, he was raised in Montreal growing up, and represents Canada internationally. To date, Kone has played four games for the Canadian National Team, with all four games played in 2022.

CF Montreal was the second seed in the 2022 MLS Playoffs. In the regular season, they posted a record of 20 wins, nine losses, and five draws for 65 points. The only team with a better record than CF Montreal in the Eastern Conference were the Philadelphia Union, which had 67 points. By being in first place, the Union got a first round bye in the playoffs.

CF Montreal will next play the winner of New York City FC and Inter Miami CF on October 23. They will play in another Eastern Conference quarterfinal game on Monday. In other MLS Playoff action from the weekend, LA Galaxy beat Nashville FC 1-0, and Austin FC beat Real Salt Lake 3-1 on penalties after entering the shootout deadlocked at two goals apiece.
