Sidney Crosby becomes 10th player to reach 1600 points

Canadian Olympic gold medalist Sidney Crosby of Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia made National Hockey League history on Wednesday by becoming the 10th player ever to have 1600 career points. He accomplished the feat in a 6-5 Penguins win over the Buffalo Sabres.

Crosby, who won the gold medal for Canada at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, and the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, registered his 1600th career point with an assist on a goal by Bryan Rust at 11:01 of the first period. He then scored the overtime winner to cap off a three-point night. For his career, Crosby has 593 goals and 1009 assists for 1602 points.

The other nine NHL players to register 1600 points are Wayne Gretzky of Brantford, Ontario (2857), Jaromir Jagr (1921), Mark Messier of Edmonton, Alberta (1887), Gordie Howe of Floral, Saskatchewan (1767), Ron Francis of Sault. Ste. Marie, Ontario (1798), Marcel Dionne of Drummondville, Quebec (1771), Steve Yzerman of Cranbrook, British Columbia (1755), Mario Lemieux of Montreal, Quebec (1723), and Joe Sakic of Burnaby, British Columbia (1641).

So far in 2023-24, Crosby is averaging more than a point a game at age 37. He has one goal and five assists for six points in five games. He is a -1 with two penalty minutes, 12 shots on goal, three power-play points, 71 faceoff wins, four blocked shots, eight hits, two takeaways and 11 giveaways.
