Christine Sinclair inducted into the B.C. Sports Hall of Fame

Canadian Olympic gold medalist Christine Sinclair of Burnaby, British Columbia has been inducted into the British Columbia Sports Hall of Fame. Sinclair, who won a gold medal for Canada at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2021 (as well as bronze medals at the 2012 Olympic Games in London and the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro), is considered one of the very best women’s soccer players of all-time. Her 190 international goals are the most ever by a female soccer player.

Joining Sinclair, is former NHL All-Star Ray Ferraro of Trail, B.C. Ferraro played 1258 NHL regular season games as a center with the Hartford Whalers, New York Islanders, Los Angeles Kings, New York Rangers. Atlanta Thrashers and St. Louis Blues from 1984 to 2002. In 18 seasons, he had 408 goals and 490 assists for 898 points.

Other athletes inducted were 1990 world women’s downhill mountain biking champion Cindy Devine of Whistler, rugby player Nathan Hirayama of Richmond, and Walter Wu of Richmond. Hirayama was the flag bearer for Canada in the opening ceremonies of the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2021, while Wu won nine gold medals at the Paralympic Games in swimming from 1996 to 2004. Meanwhile, builders inducted were Saul Miller (sports psychology), Wes Woo (weightlifting), and Chandra Madhosingh (table tennis), while the 2000 BC Lions, the Maeraloma Club, which offers opportunities for athletes to participate in a variety of sports, hockey and baseball broadcaster Jim Hughson, and former Tennis Canada chairman Robert Wright are also being recognized.
