Shilo Rousseau of Thessalon, Ontario has won her second gold medal and third medal overall at the 2023 Winter Universiade in Lake Placid, New York. On Thursday, the product of the University of Ottawa won the gold medal in the women’s 10 kilometre pursuit. She previously won the gold medal in the women’s 12.5 kilometre short individual biathlon event on Saturday and a silver medal in the women’s 7.5 kilometre biathlon sprint on Wednesday.
In the women’s 10 kilometre pursuit, Rousseau posted a time of 32 minutes, 24.4 seconds. Anna Nedza-Kubiniec of Poland won the silver medal with a time of 33 minutes, 4.5 seconds. Barbara Skrobiszewska of Poland won the bronze medal with a time of 33 minutes, 39.3 seconds. Rousseau earned a medal by one minute, 17.5 seconds over fourth place finisher Kristyna Otcovska of Czechia, who had a fourth place time of 33 minutes, 41.9 seconds.
In men’s curling, Canada will play for bronze on Friday against Switzerland after losing 6-4 to Great Britain in the semifinals. Great Britain will play the United States for gold. South Korea will play China in the gold medal game in women’s curling.
In women’s hockey, Canada will play Slovakia in one semifinal on Friday. Japan will play Czechia in the other semifinal. The United States are shockingly not in the semifinals after having a round robin record of two wins and three losses, and outscoring their opponents 36-13. In addition to losing to Canada 2-1, the Americans were upset 3-1 to Japan and 6-5 to Slovakia. In men’s hockey, Canada will play Kazakhstan in one semifinal, and the United States will play Japan in the other semifinal on Saturday.
Canada now has won eight medals (three gold medals, one silver medal and four bronze medals) and are in seventh place in the overall standings. Japan leads with 36 medals.
