Canada wins three medals in halfpipe skiing World Cup at Calgary

Canada won three medals on Thursday at a World Cup Halfpipe Skiing event in Calgary. In the men’s event, Brendan Mackay of Calgary, Alberta won the silver medal and Simon D’Artois of Vancouver, British Columbia won the bronze medal. In the women’s event, Canadian Olympic bronze medalist Rachael Karker of Guelph, Ontario won the silver medal. Karker won the bronze medal in women’s halfpipe skiing at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing.

Mackay posted a second place score of 94.5 points. D’Artois posted a third place score of 93 points. Jon Sallinen of Finland won the gold medal with 96 points. Mackay reached the podium by two points and D’Artois reached the podium by half a point. Alex Ferreira of the United States finished in fourth place with a score of 92.5 points.

Karker posted a second place score of 89 points. Ailing Eileen Gu of China won the gold medal with a score of 95 points. Hanna Faulhaber of the United States won the bronze medal with a score of 77.25 points. Karker reached the podium by 14.25 points over fourth place finisher Amy Fraser of Halifax, Nova Scotia.

In the men’s World Cup halfpipe standings, MacKay leads with 160 points. He has 15 more points than Sallinen, who is second with 145 points. D’Artois is sixth with 86 points. In the women’s World Cup halfpipe standings, Karker is in first with 180 points. Fraser is second with 130 points. The medals for MacKay, Karker and D’Artois will give them confidence as they prepare for the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milan/Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy.
