Seth Jarvis of Winnipeg, Manitoba recorded his first National Hockey League on Thursday in a 6-2 Carolina Hurricanes win over the Montreal Canadiens. A center, he is in his second season in the NHL.

Jarvis’s first goal of the game put the Hurricanes up 2-1 at 14:47 of the first period. Sebastian Aho and Andrei Svechnikov notched the assists. Jarvis then put the Hurricanes up 4-2 from Brent Burns of Barrie, Ontario and Svechnikov at 3:53 of the third period. Jarvis then closed out the scoring with 20 seconds left in the third period with a shorthanded marker from Derek Stepan to put the Hurricanes up 6-2.

Jarvis was one of two Hurricanes players to score in the four-goal Carolina win. The other was Jordan Staal of Thunder Bay, Ontario, who scored from Jordan Martinook of Brandon, Manitoba and Jesper Fast at the five minute mark of the third period, which put the Hurricanes up 5-2. Martinook had a hat trick for the Hurricanes earlier this season in a 6-4 Carolina win over the St. Louis Blues on December 1.

Jarvis was also one of two Canadians to have a multi-point game. Burns had two assists as he also set up Jesper Kotkaniemi with a first period goal.

In 54 games this season, Jarvis has 11 goals and 16 assists for 27 points. He was a +11 with 10 penalty minutes, four power-play points, one shorthanded point, 119 shots on goal, eight faceoff wins, 33 blocked shots, 52 hits, 24 takeaways and 17 giveaways.

The Hurricanes lead the Metropolitan Division. With a record of 36 wins, 10 regulation losses, and eight losses in extra time for 80 points, Carolina has a five point-lead over the second place New Jersey Devils.
