Senators sign center Derick Brassard

The Ottawa Senators signed center Derick Brassard of Hull, Quebec to a one-year contract worth $750,000 on Monday according to Rogers Sportsnet. This will be Brassard’s second stint in Ottawa as he was also with them from 2016 to 2018.

Last season, Brassard played with the Philadelphia Flyers and Edmonton Oilers. He has also previously played for the Columbus Blue Jackets, New York Rangers, Pittsburgh Penguins, Florida Panthers, Colorado Avalanche, New York Islanders, and Arizona Coyotes.

In 2021-22, Brassard had eight goals and 11 assists for 19 points. In 46 games, he was a +4 with 16 penalty minutes, two power-play points, one game winning goal, 62 shots on goal, 169 faceoff wins, six blocked shots, 82 hits, 10 takeaways, and 10 giveaways.

Brassard got off to a great start for the Flyers. He had one goal and four assists for five points in his first three games. He also had a season high three points (one goal and two assists) on October 18 in a 6-1 Flyers win over the Seattle Kraken.

Both of Brassard’s power-play points came with the Flyers. He had a power-play assist on a goal by Joel Farabee in a 6-3 Flyers win over the Boston Bruins on October 20, and a power-play goal in a 5-2 Flyers loss to the Bruins on November 20.

Brassard’s game-winning goal came with the Oilers. In his first game in an Oilers jersey, Brassard scored from Evan Bouchard of Oakville, Ontario and Jesse Puljujarvi in a 5-2 Oilers win over the San Jose Sharks on March 24.
