The Ottawa Senators have named Travis Green of Castlegar, British Columbia as their new head coach on Tuesday according to the Canadian Press. The Senators are the third National Hockey League team Green has been a head coach for. He previously coached the Vancouver Canucks from 2017 to 2022, and the New Jersey Devils in 2024.

Green has a regular season record of 141 wins, 159 regulation losses, and 35 losses in extra time for a winning percentage of .473. The hiring of Green by the Senators is rather interesting because only once in six seasons has Green guided a team to the postseason. That was in 2020 as the Canucks upset the St. Louis Blues four games to two in the first round of the 2020 Western Conference Playoff Series.

In 2023-24, the Senators missed the playoffs. They had a record of 37 wins, 41 regulation losses, and four losses in extra time for 78 points. Green takes over from interim head coach Jacques Martin of Rockland, Ontario.

Green also played 14 seasons in the NHL as a centre from 1992 to 2007. He was with the New York Islanders from 1992 to 1998, the Anaheim Ducks from 1998 to 1999, and again from 2006 to 2007, the Phoenix Coyotes from 1999 to 2001, the Toronto Maple Leafs from 2001 to 2003, and in 2007, and the Boston Bruins from 2003 to 2006. In 970 games, Green had 193 goals and 269 assists for 455 points. He was a -55 with 764 penalty minutes, 117 power-play points, eight shorthanded points, 21 game-winning goals, and 1726 shots on goal.
