Canadian Olympic gold medalist Sarah Fillier of Georgetown, Ontario was the Professional Women’s Hockey League First Star of the Week for the week from December 2 to 8, 2024. In two games, the New York Sirens forward had two goals and two assists for four points.
Fillier opened the week with two goals and one assist for three points in a 4-1 New York win over the Montreal Victoire on December 4. She then had one assist in a 4-2 New York loss to Boston on December 8. This is the second straight week that a New York player received first star of the week honours in the PWHL. In week one, Alex Carpenter, who is the daughter of former NHL center Bobby Carpenter, was honoured.
Also in the two games, Fillier was a +2 with five shots on goal, two penalty minutes, one power-play point, six faceoff wins, and two hits. The power-play point was a power-play goal and came in the New York win over Montreal. Fillier scored from forward Jessie Eldridge of Barrie, Ontario and defender Micah Zandee-Hart of Saanichton, British Columbia on an all-Canadian goal with 18 seconds left in the third period against Montreal. Fillier also opened the scoring against Montreal on a goal from Eldridge at 11:32 of the first period.
In three games for the season, Fillier has two goals and four assists for six points. She was a +3 with two penalty minutes, eight faceoff wins, one power-play point and six shots on goal. The Sirens are have five points (one regulation win, one overtime win, and one regulation loss), and are in second place in the PWHL standings, and two points back of the Minnesota Frost.
