Sade McCreath of Ajax. Ontario set the Canadian record in the women’s 100m on Sunday, according to Doug Harrison of CBC Sports on Monday. She posted a time of 10.86 seconds in the semifinal heat at the Edmonton Athletics Invitational at Foote Field in Edmonton, Alberta.

The previous Canadian record was held by Audrey Leduc of Gatineau, Quebec. Leduc posted a time of 10.94 seconds in the semifinals a year ago at the 2025 Edmonton Athletics Invitational.

Even though McCreath set the Canadian record in the semifinals, she was unable to win the gold medal in the finals. The gold medalist was Leduc, who had a time of 10.9 seconds, four one-hundredth of a second faster than the Canadian record she set a year ago. McCreath won the silver medal with a time of 10.95 seconds. Alia Armstrong of the United States won the bronze medal with a time of 11 seconds.

The world record in the women’s 100 metres belongs to Florence Griffith Joyner of the United States. She had a time of 10.49 seconds at the 1988 United States Olympic Trials in Indianapolis.

McCreath is one of four Canadians to set a national record in athletics in 2026. The other three are Kieran Lumb of Vancouver, British Columbia (men’s 10 km road race with a time of 27 minutes and 50 seconds in Valencia, Spain on January 11), Rory Linkletter of Calgary, Alberta (men’s half marathon with a time of 59 minutes and 49 seconds at the Houston Half Marathon on January 11), and Canadian Olympic gold medalist Camryn Rogers of Richmond, British Columbia (women’s hammer throw with a throw of 81.13 metres at the 2026 Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays in Austin, Texas on April 2). Rogers won her Olympic gold medal in the women’s hammer throw at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
