Canadian Olympic gold medalist Rosannagh MacLennan of Toronto, Ontario retired at the age of 34 on Friday according to Scott Russell of CBC Sports. MacLennan won the gold medal in women’s trampoline at the 2012 Olympic Games in London and the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
You could make the argument that MacLennan is one of Canada’s best gymnasts and one of Canada’s best summer Olympians of all-time. She is the only Canadian to win back-to-back gold medals in an individual event at the Olympic Summer Games.
In addition to her two Olympic gold medals, MacLennan won three gold medals and a remarkable 19 medals overall at the World Trampoline and Tumbling Championships. Two of her gold medals came in individual trampoline in 2013 in Sofia, Bulgaria, and in 2018 in St. Petersburg, Russia. MacLennan also won a synchronized trampoline gold medal in 2007 in Quebec City, Quebec, alongside three-time Canadian Olympic medalist Karen Cockburn of Toronto. Cockburn won silver in women’s trampoline at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens and the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, and a bronze medal in women’s trampoline at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney.
MacLennan is also a two-time gold medalist at the Pan American Games in 2011 in Guadalajara, Mexico, and in 2015 in Toronto. Injuries plagued MacLennan throughout her career. She had to deal with a concussion and ankle injury.
