According to the Canadian Press on Tuesday, Regina will host the 2024 Brier. We do not know at this time what the title sponsor for the Canadian men’s curling championship will be as Tim Hortons’ contract with Curling Canada expires after the 2023 curling season, and they have not decided whether or not to renew their sponsorship.
Regina previously hosted the Brier in 1955, 1976, 1992, 2006, and 2018. Prior skips who have won Brier titles in Regina include Garnet Campbell of Avonlea, Saskatchewan (1955), Jack MacDuff of St. John’s, Newfoundland (1976), Vic Peters of Steinbach, Manitoba (1992), Jean-Michel Menard of Amos, Quebec (2006), and Canadian Olympic gold medalist Brad Gushue of St. John’s (2018). Of the five Brier champions in Regina, the Brier champion has never gone on to win the gold medal a month later that same year at the World Men’s Curling Championship.
Gushue won his Olympic gold medal at the 2006 Olympic Winter Games in Turin. Ironically, Toby McDonald of St. John’s, who was the third for MacDuff when Newfoundland won the Brier in 1976, was Gushue’s coach when he won the Olympic gold medal in 2006.
The 2023 Tim Hortons Brier will take place in London, Ontario. The 2023 Scotties Tournament of Hearts will be in Kamloops, British Columbia. The 2023 World Men’s Curling Championship will be in Ottawa, Ontario. The 2024 World Women’s Curling Championship will be in Sydney, Nova Scotia.
