The Ottawa Redblacks beat the British Columbia Lions 34-27 on Saturday from Toronto Dominion Place in Ottawa, Ontario. A major reason for the Redblacks’s success was the play of Canadian wide receiver Nick Mardner of Mississauga, Ontario.

Mardner caught his first two Canadian Football League touchdown passes. The first was 64 yards, and the second was 22 yards. Both touchdowns were caught from passes by quarterback Dru Brown.

Both of Mardner’s touchdown catches were in the third quarter. The first touchdown came 48 seconds into the second half and at the time put the Redblacks up 18-17. Ottawa went for the two points and went up by a field goal (20-17) as Brown connected with Ryquell Armstead.

Mardner’s second touchdown was with five minutes and 54 seconds left in the third quarter. At the time of the converted touchdown, the Redblacks went up 27-17.

In the game, Mardner had three catches for 95 receiving yards. For the season, Mardner has 14 catches for 190 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

The Redblacks are currently in second place in the East Division with a record of seven wins, two losses and one tie for 15 points. In fact, they have the second best record in the entire CFL. Only the defending Grey Cup champion Montreal Alouettes, at 10 wins and one loss for 20 points, are better.
