Arizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Michael Soroka recorded his 32nd Major League Baseball quality start on Wednesday. He accomplished the feat in a 3-2 Diamondbacks win over the San Francisco Giants at Oracle Park in San Francisco, California.
Soroka pitched six innings and only gave up two earned runs. He gave up four hits, to go along with three strikeouts. Of Soroka’s 83 pitches, 60 pitches were strikes.
For the season, Soroka has a record of seven wins and two losses with an earned run average of 3.25. In 11 games and 61 innings pitched, Soroka gave up 59 hits, 22 earned runs, four home runs and 14 walks, to go along with 60 strikeouts and a WHIP (walks and hits per innings pitched) of 1.20.
Of Soroka’s 32 quality starts, five have come this season with the Diamondbacks. He had 22 quality starts with the Atlanta Braves, four quality starts with the Washington Nationals and one quality start with the Chicago White Sox.
Since Soroka’s quality start, the Diamondbacks have struggled. They were swept over the weekend by the Seattle Mariners in interleague play. Arizona’s regular season record is 31 wins and 27 losses. Their record is good enough at the moment to hold down the third wildcard spot (and final playoff spot) in the National League.
