Arizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Michael Soroka of Calgary, Alberta recorded his 28th Major League Baseball quality start on Friday and first with the Diamondbacks. He accomplished the feat in a 6-3 Diamondbacks win over the defending American League champion Toronto Blue Jays. Of Soroka’s 28 quality starts, 22 have come with the Atlanta Braves, four have come with the Washington Nationals, and now one each with the Chicago White Sox and Diamondbacks.

Soroka pitched seven innings and only gave up two earned runs on Friday. He threw 94 pitches of which 67 pitches were strikes. Soroka had five strikeouts compared to zero walks and gave up five hits.

For the season, Soroka has been dominant on the mound, and in the process is third in the Major Leagues with four wins. He is only behind southpaw reliever Aaron Ashby of the Milwaukee Brewers and Jose Soriano of the Los Angeles Angels, who have five wins each.

In 22 2/3 innings, Soroka has given up 18 hits, seven earned runs, two home runs, and six walks, to go along with 28 strikeouts, WHIP (walks and hits per innings pitched) of 1.06, and an earned run average of 2.78. With the win, the Diamondbacks improved to a record of 12 wins and eight losses. They are third in the National League West and three and a half games back of the first place Los Angeles Dodgers. Arizona is also in a National League wildcard spot.
