Melissa Humana-Paredes and Brandie Wilkerson improve to 2-0 at 2023 World Beach Volleyball Championships

Melissa Humana-Paredes and Brandie Wilkerson of Toronto, Ontario have improved to a record of two wins and zero losses in the women’s draw at the 2023 World Beach Volleyball Championships in Apizaco, Mexico. On Sunday, Humana-Paredes and Wilkerson beat Erika Mongelos and Michelle Valiente of Paraguay 21-14, 21-10. Humana-Paredes and Wilkerson were one of two Canadian teams to be victorious on Sunday. In men’s action, Samuel Schachter of North York, Ontario and Daniel Dearing of Toronto beat the Mexican duo of Miguel Sarabia and Juan Virgen, 21-17, 21-12.

In Humana-Paredes and Wilkerson’s win, Wilkerson had 23 points (17 attack points, four block points and two aces). Humana-Paredes had nine points (six attack points and three aces). They are in a first place tie with the Czech Republic duo of Barbora Hermannova and Marie-Sara Stochlova in Pool D. Humana-Paredes and Wilkerson play Hermannova and Stochlova on Monday.

In Schacter and Dearing’s win in Huamantla, Dearing had 19 points (15 attack points, two block points and two aces). Schacter had 15 points (12 attack points and three aces). With the win, Dearing and Schacter improved to a record of one win and one loss. They will advance to the round of 32 on Wednesday, if they beat Mohamed Abicha and Oussama El Azhari of Morocco in Pool L action on Monday.
