Meaghan Agosta retires at age 37

Canadian Olympic gold medalist Meaghan Agosta of Windsor, Ontario has retired at the age of 37 according to Anna Burns of the Penticton Western News on Friday. Agosta won a gold medal for Canada at the 2006 Olympic Winter Games in Turin, the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver and the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi.

In four Olympic Winter Games (also won silver at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang), Agosta had 17 goals and 11 assists for 28 points in 20 games. At the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, Agosta was the tournament’s most valuable player, led the tournament with 15 points, and was the co-leader of the tournament in goals (nine).

Agosta also won eight medals for Canada at the World Women’s Hockey Championship. Two of those medals were gold, as Agosta was on the Canadian teams that placed first at the 2007 World Women’s Hockey Championship in Winnipeg, and the 2012 Women’s World Hockey Championship in Burlington, Vermont. The other six medals were silver medals. In 40 games at the Women’s World Hockey Championship, Agosta had 16 goals and 19 assists for 35 points.

Agosta also starred in the Canadian Women’s Hockey League. While playing for the Montreal Stars in 2011-12, she set the record for the points in a season with 80 (41 goals and 39 assists).
