Mason McTavish of Pembroke, Ontario tied the Team Canada record for most goals in a game at the International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Hockey Championships. McTavish scored four goals as Canada trounced Slovakia 11-1 on Thursday to improve to a record of two wins and zero losses.

McTavish tied the record previously set by Mario Lemieux of Montreal, Quebec, Simon Gagne of Sainte-Foy, Quebec, Brayden Schenn of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Taylor Raddysh of Caledon, Ontario, Maxime Comtois of Longueuil, Quebec, and Connor Bedard of North Vancouver, British Columbia. It is interesting that Bedard’s goal count from December still counts even though the tournament was not completed because of coronavirus. That is the reason why the 2022 International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Hockey Championships are happening in Edmonton right now.

McTavish also led Canada in scoring with six points as he had four goals and two assists. There were eight other Canadians with multi-point games. Sherbrooke Phoenix left winger Joshua Roy of St-Georges-de-Beauce, Quebec had four points (one goal and three assists), left winger Brennan Othmann of Scarborough, Ontario had three points (one goal and two assists), defenseman Olen Zellweger of Calgary, Alberta had two points (one goal and one assist), Regina Pats center Connor Bedard of North Vancouver, British Columbia had two points (one goal and one assist), Windsor Spitfires left winger Will Cuylle of Toronto, Ontario had two points (one goal and one assist), Kamloops Blazers center Logan Stankoven of Kamloops, British Columbia had two points (one goal and one assist), Saint John Sea Dogs right winger William Dufour of Quebec City, Quebec had two points (two assists), and Charlottetown Islanders defenseman Lukas Cormier of Sainte-Marie-de-Kent, New Brunswick had two points (two assists). The other Canadian goal scorer was Vancouver Giants left winger Zack Ostapchuk of St. Albert, Alberta.
